Road

Unlocated remains of an ancient roadway connecting Monaincha to Aghaboe. Traces of the actual toghers have been discovered in the 'Redd Bog of Ely' which tradition links to the 'Green Road'. According to local tradition the road 'traversed diagonally the parish of Borris (in Ossory), passing through Ballykelly (Bealach Eli), and Clonagooden, then by Britthawce Well in Ballybrophy, where part of it can still be seen, and then through Bushfield to Aghaboe. Britthawce well is situated near the road junction called the 'Green Road' (Cunningham 1987, 161). Unlocated ancient roadway within townland described by Carrigan as an ancient roadway that connected the 'monasteries of Aghaboe to Monaincha through Moon-Aela (now called the bog of Allen), to Kilmartin and thence, under the church of Skirke, through Clonagudden; thence between the townlands of Munnia and Barnasallagh, where part of it may still be seen; then by Britthawce well, in Ballybrophy; and thence through Doon, Moonfad, Grange, Lismore and Machaire na Sceach (now Bushfield), to Aghaboe'(Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 51).
