Road

Reference to remains of old roads around the motte and bailey (LA022-019007-) (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 47). No definite remains visible. Traces of roads are visible around the motte (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 47). Slight remains of earthworks visible. Described in the History of the Queen's County as 'In the immediate neighbourhood of Aghaboe Protestant Church tradition points out in the fields of the position and direction of former roads, that led to this old monastery (O'Hanlon and O'Leary 1907, vol. 1, 159). According to Carrigan 'Down to about 1800, the public road from Aghaboe to Ballacolla and Durrow, came out by Mrs Dunne's hall-door and thence by Kenny's bush, Springfield, Farreneglish, Ballygihen, &c.'
