Road

Originally recorded as a loose band (exposed L 35.5m; Wth 2.5m; T 0.3m) of small and large brushwood, along with at least two roundwoods, extending roughly at right angles into both the E and W drain faces (Dunne 1999, 13, 99LBW0033A). It was orientated ENE-WSW. Two cuttings were excavated along its length revealing that the togher was constructed with longitudinal roundwood, brushwood and twigs (Wth 0.95-2.5m; T 0.3m); the roundwoods were sometimes arranged in pairs. A large number of pegs and posts were used and these displayed a variety of worked ends. Many of the tips were blunted and buckled from impinging on lower elements of the structure.
