What is recorded here

The site (L 3m min.; Wth 1.7m; D 0.32m) is orientated NW-SE and composed of four to five closely laid longitudinal timbers (Wth 0.2-0.5m). Beneath these are three transversely laid roundwoods (diam. 0.06-0.1m). At the W edge of the site is a peg (diam. c. 0.06m) set at 50°. A single piece of horizontal brushwood lies c. 1.2m W of this at the same level as the site. Small ex situ timber fragments are scattered amongst the larger elements and on the drain face. The exposed ends of the timbers are frayed and machine damaged but the site as a whole appears to be in a good to moderate condition. This site sits at an interface between two peat types, above it lies poorly humified Sphagnum peat while below it is moderately humified Sphagnum peat. Fragments of the site were also visible in the opposite drain face, c. 0.3m below the spreading surface which slopes sharply down to the waterline. In addition ex situ timbers were present on the spreading surface including one possible outer tangential. Some of these timbers appeared to have been burnt.
