Road

The site (L 6.87m; Wth 2.88m; D 0.19m) is orientated NNW-SSE and is constructed of irregularly spaced, longitudinal pieces of brushwood and roundwoods towards the centre with the edges of the site flanked by light brushwood at the SSE end. At the NNW end there is a small deposit of parallel brushwood (Wth 0.55m). It is present in well-humified Sphagnum peat containing ericaceous root and Eriophorum. This material has been laid on a dispersed and irregularly laid substructure of brushwood beneath the central and N area of the site. Metal-cut toolmarks are noted. Of the wood species identified, hazel predominated, followed by ash, birch, alder and Crataegus. The site was set within well-humified Sphagnum peat containing ericaceous root and some Eriophorum. A piece of brushwood produced a radiocarbon date of cal. AD 1058-1285 (Beta-118031). The site is 1.7m NE of SMR OF015-368----. SMR OF015-325----, SMR OF015-430----, SMR OF015-346----, SMR OF015-365----, SMR OF015-446----, SMR OF015-447---- and SMR OF015-448---- are also located near this site.
