What is recorded here

A compact structure (Wth 4.66m; D 0.4m) of brushwood in the drain face. The brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.05m) is laid up to six pieces deep. Many of the pieces are orientated E-W but a number of irregularly laid pieces are also recorded. A number of pieces have metal-cut toolmarks. Wood species include birch, willow, alder and hazel. The site is situated in moderately-humified Sphagnum peat containing Eriophorum and ericaceous remains. Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College Dublin).
