What is recorded here

This site (Wth 3.15m; D 0.3m) is orientated N-S and consists of a brushwood hurdle formed of four panels in opposing drain faces. Four sails (diam. 0.05-0.06m) are recorded, these seem to occur singly but the site is too fragmentary to determine the nature of the weave. The rods (diam. 0.01-0.04m) have some twigs also recorded between them. Toolmarks are noted on a number of pieces. The elements are constructed predominantly from alder, with hazel, oak, birch and willow also identified. The site lies in well-humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum, Phragmites and occasional Menyanthes seeds. It is situated c. 0.06m below SMR OF015-132----, c. 0.35m above SMR OF015-162---- and c. 2.2m NW of SMR OF015-164----. Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College Dublin).
