Riversdale House

Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1930, having central gabled return and lean-to extension to rear (north) elevation, and porch to front elevation. Hipped slate roof, pitched to return, with cast-iron rainwater goods, moulded brick eaves supports and red brick eaves course. Clay ridge tiles and polychrome-brick chimneystacks. Cast-iron rectangular-plan water tank to north-east of roof. Decorative timber bargeboards to front of porch. Red brick wall to front laid in English garden wall bond, yellow-brick string course over ground floor and yellow-brick quoins. Harl-rendered walls to rear, east and west elevations. Polychrome-brick block-and-start quoins to side elevations, painted to rear, painted render plinth course, painted channelled quoins to rear return. Gauged polychrome-brick square-headed window openings to front, alternating polychrome-brick surrounds, tooled stone sills and replacement uPVC windows. Square-headed window openings to side and rear elevations with render reveals, painted render sills, and replacement uPVC and timber-frame windows. Square-headed door opening to east side of porch having painted lintel, alternating polychrome-brick surrounds and replacement timber panelled door. Square-headed door opening to west of return with render reveal and replacement glazed timber door. Square-headed door opening to return with render reveal and timber battened door. Harl-rendered boundary wall terminating in pair of square-plan polychrome-brick piers having render capping, flanking double-leaf steel vehicular gate, to south-east of house.

This modestly-proportioned house is enhanced and enlivened by polychrome-brick detailing in its quoins, surrounds, and eaves course. Its polychrome-brick chimneystacks are of local interest, being almost ubiquitous in this part of County Monaghan. Decorative timber bargeboards to the front porch add further interest also. The house is representative of the continuing popularity of classically inspired modest domestic architecture.
