Rivelin Edge is a sandstone sea cliff or coastal rock feature formed during the Permian period, approximately 290 to 250 million years ago, through the deposition and lithification of aeolian (wind-blown) sands. It is notable as part of the Magnesian Limestone and Millstone Grit geological formations, which are significant in the South Yorkshire area for their role in shaping the local landscape and supporting distinctive flora and fauna.
