Ritual site

According to Redmond (1885-6a, 402) two stones at the corner of a street in Cappoquin were almost venerated locally. One was regarded as a hearth-stone from the house of St Declan's father, and the other was thought to have an inscription. The location is not known. Redmond, G. The stones are associated with St Declan, a 5th-century Irish saint and founder of the monastery at Dromore, County Waterford, and were locally venerated as relics connected to his family home. Such stones often feature in early Christian folklore as sites of spiritual significance and healing.
