Marianne held the first child on that land. She bled for nine hours and lived. The ring ditch marked the place where human life continued despite danger. Children still run across the field, unaware that they play above the patience and courage of the women who came before them.

The cropmark of a ring-ditch was identified during an aerial photographic survey by Dr. Gillian Barrett on 30 May 1990. Subsequently, in 1998, archaeological monitoring of groundworks (excavation licence no. 98E0166) was undertaken in compliance with a condition attached to the grant of planning permission to develop a playing field and associated structures. Groundworks associated with the development included the stripping of topsoil in the area of the proposed buildings and carpark, the removal of a field boundary and the reduction of ground levels over a high area of the proposed playing field. No features of archaeological interest were discovered during the course of this work, but several sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from the topsoil.
