A Franciscan friary at Dysart is listed by Bishop De Burgo in the 18th century (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 278; De Burgo 1762, 744). According to Archdall in the year 1331 there is a reference to Reginald prior of Dysart (Moran 1876, 322). Cogan (1867, 424) stated that there was an abbey here called Disert-Maoltuile (WM025-110003-). The precise location of this friary if there ever was one at Dysart has not been identified.
