Woodlawn

Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge, built c.1830, having pedimented entrance porch to front (south) elevation. Now disused. Hipped slate roof with rock-faced rusticated chimneystacks with carved cornices, timber corbelled eaves course, and some lead flashing. Cut limestone pediment to porch, with pulvinated upper rails. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with tooled limestone quoins and plinth course. Square-headed window openings with raised tooled limestone surrounds and cut limestone sills, windows boarded. Square-headed door opening set in segmental-headed recess, with chamfered limestone surround and timber panelled double-leaf door, and cut limestone step. Set inside entrance gates to Woodlawn.

This well composed Classical style gate lodge serves the last remaining formal entrance to Woodlawn demesne. Although now derelict it retains its original form and character, with tooled limestone quoins emphasising its formal qualities and creating a suitable precursor to the country house. It forms part of the group of demesne structures associated with Woodlawn. Along with the gates, it is an attractive roadside feature.
