Castle Annesley

Castle Annesley is a one-room watchtower, barely three and a half metres tall, with walls a metre thick and five narrow lights on the ground floor. It stands open-backed at the edge of a vanished walled bawn, while a farm complex occupies the head of a small valley where the main house once sat. Sir Francis Annesley received the land in 1618 and raised the castle by 1621, taking territory that had probably belonged to the Ó Morchoe family. The tower still points upward like a broken finger, remembering a man who watched more than he lived.
