Inchbofin, the Island of the White Cow, still floats in Lough Ree with a ruined rectangular building pressed against its cashel wall. Crawford called it a Lady Church in 1917, but the worn stone gives back almost nothing, not even a shadow of an altar or door. Moríog, nephew of St. Patrick, founded the monastery there in the fifth century, and the island has kept that name while refusing to explain every corner of itself.
