What is recorded here

Martin's Mill near Lough Corrib cast hot sparks into the Galway night in 1734, forcing local people to breathe smoke and listen for hammer blows. The furnace may have fed ships, farms or proud human ambition, yet no marker remains to prove which.
It is recorded that as late as 1734 a new furnace was built at 'Martin's Mill near Lough Corrib' (Andrews 1956, 144). Not located. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 16 February 2017

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
