Cappagh Castle still hides beside a Kerry causeway, though no marker or plan has yet pinned its exact stones. Pococke sailed past it in 1758, looking right toward Valentia and calling the harbour glorious. The castle may have stood in grass, shadow or water, watching boats and people come and go while the bog kept its own counsel.

In 1758, Pococke's tour of Kerry recorded that he had passed by a 'Castle call'd, if I do not mistake Agha tubrid [Aghatubrid] & afterwards passing a bog on a causeway we had the Castle of Cappagh I think to the right & a most glorious prospect of the Island & harbour of Valentia' (Ó Maidín 1959, 38).
