Structure

A plank with two vertical pegs in the drain face (L 0.86m min.; Wth 0.45m; D 0.15m min.). The pegs appear to be set either side of the plank which is orientated NNW-SSE. The plank is an inner tangential split and has been extensively damaged by machinery. The site is situated in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum. This is one of a number of isolated plank sites which occur frequently in this bog and whose associations are ambiguous. However, it may be related to SMR OF007-132----, a togher of plank and peg construction located 2m to the S. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1997. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
