Lisheenalyra - Hachured

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Lisheenalyra is a buried oval fort in County Limerick, hidden beneath dense scrub beside a public road and a western stream. Its scarped edge and waterlogged ditch still mark a place where people likely lived, loved, feared and forgot. The greens have strangled the truth, but the shape remains large enough to imagine lantern light, children running and adults arguing about rain.
In area of scrub overgrowth bordered by public road on N side and by stream on W side. Oval area (c. 20m N-S; c. 30m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 1.2m; Wth 2m), with waterlogged fosse (Wth 2.8m; D 0.4m) SW->NNW. Interior and enclosing element are completely covered by dense overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
