What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Tullaghanrock, County Roscommon, Ireland. It appears as a circular enclosure on the 1837 and 1914 maps, sits on a gentle south-west-facing slope, and is circumscribed by a road. Gannon described an arc of bank and outer fosse at the west, but a north-west to south-east laneway now bisects the site.

Marked as a circular enclosure (ext. diam. c. 30m) on the 1837 (MA 74) and as a circular area (ext. diam. c. 45m) on the 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, it is situated on a gentle SW-facing slope. It is depicted as circumscribed by a road SE-W-NW on both maps. Described as an arc of bank and outer fosse at W (Gannon 1972), it is not visible at ground level and is now bisected by a NW-SE laneway. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
