Ecclesiastical enclosure in Townplots

In pasture, on SE-facing slope. Located directly outside site of W wall of medieval town of Kinsale (CO112-03402- and CO112-03401-). According to local information (pers. comm. E. Gillen) site of early ecclesiastical settlement of St. Multose founded in the 6th century (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 396). No visible surface trace. It is also possible that site is that now occupied by St Multose' Church (CO112-03404-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. An ecclesiastical enclosure, likely dating to the early medieval period, situated on the outskirts of the medieval town of Kinsale. Local tradition suggests it was part of an early Christian settlement, possibly linked to the broader monastic or religious activity in the region.
