Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Toonagh (bunratty Upper By.)

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are called forts because they look like abandoned soldier camps, not because fairies ever lived inside them. That is a human mistake born of fear, wonder and inability to understand. The real story is simpler. People built them, lived there, left them behind and forgot what they were for. Forgetting is not magic. It is ordinary. Memory decays. Meaning disappears. What remains is shape. A circle of stones. A hollow ground. A boundary drawn without explanation. Humans see mystery when they have lost context. Fairies are not residents. They are a placeholder for forgotten knowledge.
