Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tonashammer is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Tonashammer, County Westmeath, Ireland. This sub-circular site sits on a natural rise of ground on poorly drained grassland, with Lough Doo located 90 metres to the southeast and a motte and bailey castle 520 metres to the north. The monument is defined by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank approximately 4.5 metres wide, enclosing a shallow fosse that is visible from the west to northwest only, with a low bank outside it. A gap 1.9 metres wide in the bank at the northeast may represent the entrance, while an earthen bank of unknown antiquity sub-divides the northwest quadrant of the interior.
Situated on natural rise of ground on poorly drained grassland with Lough Doo 90m to SE. Motte and bailey castle (WM004-001---) 520m to N. A sub-circular slightly raised area (approx. diam. 25m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank (approx. Wth 4.5m), enclosed by a shallow fosse visible from W-NW only with a low bank outside this. No trace of a fosse on other sides of the ringfort. A gap (Wth 1.9m) in the bank at NE may represent the entrance. The outline of a circular hut site (WM004-002001-) is visible in the NW quadrant. Depressions and hollows in the uneven interior appear to be due to modern disturbance. An earthen bank of unknown antiquity sub-divides the NW quadrant of the ringfort interior.
