Mairi and Caelach walked the black water at Derryduff. They wanted to find the lost rowing port and bring back the children. The peat gave up a wooden spear and a copper ring. The ring had no mark but it fit Caelach's finger. The water went quiet. The lost port had not wanted to be found. It wanted a witness.

A single piece of brushwood (L 0.56m; diam. 0.06m) on the field surface. It has been broken into three pieces and is partially milled away but a multi-faceted pencil point survives at one end. It lies in moderately humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 2001. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
