What is recorded here
Tiduff’s oblong stone chamber sits on rising land above the surrounding countryside, marking a forgotten place where the dead faced the wide sky. Inside, two shallow depressions wait like empty hands, while a narrow bank stretches northeast as if pointing toward a destination now lost. People may have gathered there to bury their own or simply to watch the horizon change with the seasons. The chamber remains unmarked on modern maps, preserving a quiet dignity that measurement alone cannot capture.
Situated on rising land, this site has an extensive view of the surrounding area. It is constructed of stone and is roughly oblong in plan. It measures internally 13m N-S, 7m E-W and .8-1.7m high. In the interior there are two depressions measuring 4m x 3m and 5.6m x 6m. Extending out of the NE sector is a narrow bank, c 3m wide and running in a NE direction for 18m. This site is not marked on any edition of the OS maps. In the 1930s the Kerry Field Club visited the site and found a smooth stone ball. This has since been lost, but these type of balls are often connected with burials.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 869. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
