Cave

Ballymaglancy Cave is a 726-metre limestone tunnel near Cong where lesser horseshoe bats still fly through darkness that human hands have never fitted with light or railing. The townland name points to a family called Clancy or Glancy, and Pollwalter suggests a mill pond above the entrance, so the cave may have been known locally as a working place before becoming a protected secret. People can wonder whether children once dropped stones into its mouth or whether farmers simply avoided it because bats fill such places with living noise.
