What is recorded here

Milling has cut through the alder and ash, but the wood still points north-south inside the dark peat. It may have marked a boundary, a path or a forgotten offering before rot and men changed its shape.

Two roundwood (diam. 0.07-0.1m) and three pieces of brushwood (L 0.8m; Wth 0.48m; D 0.16m) orientated N-S on the field surface. The wood has been identified as alder and ash. The wood is partially rotten and has been affected by milling. It is situated within well-humified Sphagnum and Eriophorum peat with some ericaceous root. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
