Structure

An area (Wth 0.71m; D 0.15m) of loosely distributed, heavy brushwood on the field surface. A concentration of brushwood is noted towards the W end of the site, in which the pieces are orientated in a WNW-ENE direction. To the E of this area, a number of more irregularly placed pieces are also recorded. The wood has been subject to some machine damage and the site may represent the remnants of a more coherent structure. Toolmarks are evident on a number of pieces and three have been split. Wood species include hazel. The site is located in poorly humified Sphagnum peat. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1993. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
