Fort Johnson is no longer a fort, only a hidden circle beneath a Monaghan farmyard. The 1858 map still draws its line, but boot heels and rain have worn the earth flat. Perhaps it was a boundary marker for a family who stopped paying taxes or started praying elsewhere. The enclosure survives in ink while the land forgot the shape.

Located on a fairly low S-N spur. A circular earthwork is depicted on a revision of the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map dated 1858, just N of a house described in italic lettering as ‘Fort Johnson’. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in a farmyard.
