STANDING STONE; possibly remains of MEGALITHIC TOMB in Strawmore

STANDING STONE; possibly remains of MEGALITHIC TOMB

What is recorded here

One edge of a chamber tomb may still stand in Strawmore, carrying the weight of a PREHISTORIC build now reduced to a marker in open ground. The possibility of a buried tomb beneath that stone turns an ordinary field into a threshold, inviting wonder rather than certainty.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as STANDING STONE; possibly remains of MEGALITHIC TOMB. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Possible megalithic tomb, dating to the Neolithic period; its significance lies in its potential association with early ceremonial or funerary practices in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
