Standing stone in Knockduff Upper (duhallow By., Cullen Par.)

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Knockduff Upper held a ton-weight standing stone, three feet high in the middle of Stone Meadow on Denis Hickey's land. It stood until 1934, when it broke. The meadow kept the shape of its shadow long after the stone disappeared, inviting people to imagine what it marked and who watched it fall.
Broker (1937, 32) recorded standing stone on Denis Hickey's land; '3ft high and about ton weight, in middle of Stone Meadow; broken in 1934'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
