What is recorded here

Fourteen metres from a cupmarked rock panel, a low upright stone still stands on a shallow knoll in Carrowreagh. It may be prehistoric, or it may be a deception born of distance and desire. The closeness of the two markers suggests human intent, yet the stone itself resists clear reading.

Identified by Van Hoek in 1987 and described as 'Some 122m SW of the Mass Rock (DG003-005----) which is visible from the site, and just S of a fence is a small outcrop in grass, sloping 8 degrees SE from near the top of a very low knoll. On its smooth surface is (though much weathered) a cupmark with three complete rings (DG003-015-). Some 14m to the S is a low standing stone, possibly prehistoric.'(Van Hoek 1987, 28). This low upright stone does not display the characteristic features of a standing stone and there may be doubt about its antiquity. However its close proximity to a panel of rock art that is only 14m to the N which may suggest that it is an authentic standing stone(H 0.85m ; base Wth 0.9m; top with 0.65m; T 0.23m) with its long axis orientated on an E-W axis.
