Standing stone in Cappaboy More

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Cappaboy More holds a standing stone so forgotten it has vanished from sight. The stone fell at the base of a south-east facing slope and the land swallowed the mark. What stood there may have guided, warned or simply marked a boundary for people who no longer leave behind a name. The more itself has erased the evidence while preserving the shape of the loss.
Fallen standing stone on fairly level ground at base of SE-facing slope (UCC). No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
