Graveslab in St. Patricksrock is a graveslab in St. Patricksrock, County Tipperary, Ireland. It lies in the choir of the cathedral on the Rock of Cashel. The rectangular slab measures 1.83 metres long, 0.59 metres wide and 0.08 metres thick, with a crack across its lower end. A seven-armed segmental cross in relief has simple fleur-de-lis terminals, three cross-bands at the base of the cross-head, and an elaborate pillar-base form.
Lying in the choir of the cathedral (TS061-025003-) on the Rock of Cashel. A rectangular slab (L 1.83m; Wth 0.59m; T 0.08m) with a crack across the lower end of the slab (Maher 1997, 71). Maher (1997, 71) describes the decoration as consisting of 'a seven-armed segmental cross in relief with simple fleur-de-lis terminals. A motif formed of three cross-bands occurs at the base of the cross-head, surmounting the shaft. The cross terminates in an elaborate pillar-base form. An inscription in Black Lettering occurs along the two sides and ends and along portion of the cross-shaft'. The inscription was transcribed and translated by FitzGerald (1901-03, vol. 5, 436) as: HIC JACET EDVARDUS FILIUS THOME BUTLER QUI OBIIT XXIII DIE MENSIS SEPTERB' ANNO / DMI M CCCCC III / ET MARGARETA COMYN / EIUS UXOR BAMC (sic) TUBAM FIERI FECIT INBIBENTES (sic) UT NEMO ALIEN' BIC SEPULIETUR QUOR / AIABUS DE PPICIET - AMEN PAT ET AVE, 'Here lies Edward son of Thomas Butler who died on the 23rd day of Septermber A.D. 1503, and Margaret Comyn his wife who caused this tomb to be made, [both] forbidding that any stranger should be here buried. God be merciful to their souls. [Say] pater and ave'.
