Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Srah

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Srah is a subcircular earthwork about thirty-five metres across on an east-west ridge in County Laois. Its low bank is nearly two and a half metres wide, with a possible ditch at the west and a gap at the northeast. People may have lived there, marked territory, or simply shaped the ridge into a room large enough for imagination.
Situated on an E-W ridge. A subcircular area (diam. c. 35m SSW-NNE) defined by a low bank (Wth c. 2.8m) except at NE. Evidence of fosse at W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 December 2007
