Enclosure in Sopwell is an enclosure in Sopwell, County Tipperary, Ireland. The 2002 inventory records three circular enclosures only in an aerial photograph, while a separate 74-metre linear feature runs north-south for 20 metres before turning northwest-southeast between the two northernmost circles. The same account states that none of these marks is visible at ground level on the flat pasture beside the fortified house to the east.
Situated on flat pasture with extensive views and nearby fortified house (TN010-017001) to the E. An aerial photograph (CUCAP, AVN 74) shows the outline of three circular enclosures. A linear feature (TN010-016002) c. 74m long extends c. N-S for c. 20m before turning NW-SE to run between the two northernmost enclosures. Not visible at ground level.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
