Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen ringfort in West Cork pasture, broken by cattle traffic but still holding its shape on a gentle slope. It is the kind of place where ordinary animals move through ancient boundaries, reminding us that human marks and living bodies share the same soil.
In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Circular, slightly raised area (28m N-S; 31m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m), stone-faced in parts; shallow external fosse. Numerous cattle breaks. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
