Detached two-bay single-storey lodge with dormer attic, c.1900, possibly superseding earlier range, pre-1840, on site with single-bay single-storey gabled projecting end bay to left having canted bay window to ground floor, and single-bay single-storey lean-to return to south-west. Renovated, c.1975, with single-bay single-storey lean-to projecting glazed porch added to right ground floor. Pitched slate roof on an L-shaped plan (gabled to end bay; gabled to dormer attic window; lean-to to porch; lean-to to return) with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks having stringcourses, rooflight, sproketed eaves, and cast-iron rainwater goods on overhanging rendered eaves. Unpainted roughcast walls on broken coursed rock-faced cut-limestone plinth having tooled cut-limestone quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings (including to canted bay window; segmental-headed window opening to gable to side (north-west) elevation) with dressed limestone sills, lintels, painted brick voussoirs to segmental-headed opening supporting 'hood moulding', and timber casement windows having square-leaded panels. Square-headed openings to porch with concrete sill on rendered riser, fixed-pane timber windows, and glazed timber panelled door. Square-headed door opening into lodge with glazed tongue-and-groove timber panelled door. Set back from road in grounds shared with Sheastown House.
A picturesque modest-scale lodge attributable to William Alphonsus Scott (1871-1921) on account of the stylistic attributes shared in common with the contemporary (1890-1903) Talbot's Inch Village to the north of nearby Kilkenny City. Having been carefully maintained the lodge presents an early aspect with the essential composition attributes surviving in place together with most of the original fabric, thereby making a positive contribution to the character of the Sheastown House estate.
