Cross-slab in Sceilg Mhichíl

Cross-slab

What is recorded here

De Paor (1955, Fig. 2) noted a cross-slab (No. 30 on Fig. 2) standing a short distance SW of the cistern which De Paor thought was a Man-made underground passage (KE104A001055-). This possible cross-slab was not located in 1978, the year conservation works commenced on the island by OPW, nor has it subsequently been found (O'Sullivan and Sheehan 1996, 290, no. 948 (81)). See attached Fig. 2 showing location of Slab No. 30, taken from De Paor 1955 The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 948. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Caimin O'Brien Date of revised upload: 10 March 2022
