Graveyard in Rosses Lower

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Lisheen na Paiste, a graveyard in the Lower Rosses, may have been one of two burial sites that stopped receiving the dead before the late 1800s. The other, recorded to its west, may have remained in use when the first closed. Both are now lost to the exact place, leaving only the name and the possibility that one field held children while the other held everyone else.
This record refers to one of two ‘now disused, burying grounds in the Lower Rosses –one, called Lisheen na Paiste [SL008-166----], and another [SL008-167----] to the west of the Lisheen, …’ which were noted in the late 1800's by O'Rorke (1890, vol. 1, 484). The exact location is unknown. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 14 December 2016
