Inscribed stone in Rosserk, County Mayo, is an inscribed stone set into the south gable of a holy well house. The 1684 Latin marker credits Father Moriartus Crehn and honours the Virgin, while the 1789 building later swallowed the older stone into its wall. Water, faith and time have worn the words until they barely speak, yet the well still keeps the shape of that much older devotion.

At a holy well (MA022-083001), built into the S gable of the stone-built well house. According to the 1838 OS Letters (O’Flanagan 1927, 86), this 17th-century inscribed stone was already at the well prior to the construction of the well house in 1789, when it was incorporated into the facade. The Latin inscription is dedicated to the Most Blessed Virgin, who according to tradition appeared at the well, and it states that the stone was commissioned in 1684 by Father Moriartus Crehn. The inscription is now partly effaced and difficult to read; the 1838 OS Letters record it as follows: In honorum Dei omnipotentis. Probably 17th century; the stone's placement at a holy well suggests a possible Christian or folkloric significance, possibly marking a pilgrimage site or containing a votive inscription.
