Detached three-bay single-storey former lighthouse keeper’s house, built 1863, now in use as private house. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack, replacement metal rainwater goods, concrete coping and corbels. Painted line-and-ruled rendered walls with rendered plinth. Square-headed openings with six-over-six timber sliding sash windows and stone sills. Square-headed door opening with replacement timber battened door. Enclosed in tooled limestone yard by lime washed rubble stone walls with granite coping (north) and iron railings (south). Outbuilding to east with single pitched roof, painted rendered walls and square-headed openings.

One of a number of former lighthouse keeper’s houses located adjacent to Crookhaven Lighthouse, this building retains its original form and plays an important role in understanding the lighthouse complex. It makes a positive and pleasing architectural contribution to Rock Island. These houses were originally built for the keepers of Fastnet Lighthouse and are a significant reminder of nineteenth century maritime life in West Cork.
