Triangular granite boulder in Spahill House garden, County Carlow, bears three cupmarks, an oblong depression and pocked grooves. Someone shaped or marked that stone long before the house existed, perhaps testing depth, repeating a shape or leaving a claim on the land. The stone survived movement and memory, carrying its small wounds into a private garden where curiosity can still touch them.
