Rock art in Carrowreagh OR Craignacally

Rock art

What is recorded here

Carrowreagh and Craignacally hold a slab with four small cupmarks, set upright in a derelict wall that may mark an old graveyard. Ned Doherty, the landowner, showed the stone to visitors, bridging the gap between forgotten hands and modern eyes. The cups are tiny, but they insist on being seen, pressing through centuries of soil and silence to remind us that someone once shaped the rock for reasons we have lost.
Described by Van Hoek as 'The landowner, Ned Doherty, showed us a slab with four small cupmarks, set upright in the derelict wall of what he told us were the remains of an old graveyard' (Van Hoek 1988, 46). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: : 30 May 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
