A total of 44 toghers, including possible toghers, were identified in Cooleeny townland in Derryville Bog as a result of field survey (Gowen 1999, 101-24). The majority were constructed using a combination of brushwood and roundwood, though roundwood seems to be the sole component in six examples and brushwood was the only component in eight examples, with one brushwood and gravel togher (TN036-050095). Two of the toghers (TN036-050119, TN036-050123) provided dates, both of which were Iron Age, of 388-207 BC and 372-192 BC respectively. Wood species were identified in seventeen toghers and these display a variety of wood types being utilised, including alder, ash, birch, blackthorn, hazel, mountain ash and willow.
