Road, unclassified togher

What is recorded here

Described by Lucas as 'Fragmentary remains of four timber toghers (OF023-014001/002/003-), running in slightly different directions, came to light in Derrybrat bog, Broughal townland, Co. Offaly, in the course of operations there by Bord na Mona and were examined in June 1967. They were constructed of timbers in the round laid side by side at right angles to the lines of the toghers and supported by beams laid longitudinally below them. No surviving traces of a brushwood foundation were visible' (Lucas 1985, 39). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011
