Kelly's Cave is a sixteen-metre man-made passage in County Mayo where carved benches and a roof skylight suggest a hermit once watched the seasons change above an underground stream. Local stories claim a fugitive named Kelly hid there after the 1798 Rebellion or survived the Penal era as a highwayman, giving the stone walls a human heartbeat. The prehistoric limestone chamber still holds that much uncertainty, inviting visitors to imagine whose footsteps echoed in its dark chambers before history forgot their names.
