Grave Yard

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Grave Yard is a possible children's burial ground in County Galway, Ireland, holding small haphazard stones inside an unenclosed oval. A mature tree stands at its centre, giving the place the appearance of a forgotten chamber rather than a discarded field. If the smaller markers belonged to children, the garden becomes a tender chamber where love and loss still breathe beneath ordinary soil.
Some 40m to the SE of a rath (GA128-070----). This poorly preserved burial ground consists of an unenclosed oval area (NE-SW 24m, NW-SE 11.5m) sloping down to E. Within it a number of small set stones and slabs, haphazardly arranged, indicate graves. A mature tree is growing in the centre of the interior. Possibly a children's burial ground.
