Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathmorrel

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Rathmorrel held a circular earthen fort beside KE014-037----, visible on the 1842 map but erased from the 1916 chart and now absent from the land. It may have been a household, a boundary marker, or a forgotten shelter, yet its shape resisted the claims of fairy lore. The earth took back what surveyors could no longer draw.
This circular enclosure was situated immediately SSE of KE014-037---- and is also marked on the 1842 OS map. It does not appear on the 1916 map and no surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 493. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
