What is recorded here
Rathmichael church on the eastern slopes of Carrickgollogan once kept a pedestal font, but the stone has vanished or sunk from sight. Westropp found a broken basin near the gate in 1894, while O'Flanagan still saw a standing pedestal in 1927. The discrepancy leaves the font half-remembered, perhaps buried, displaced or misread. Water may still collect in a hollow nobody names.
The OS Letters note that a pedestal font was still standing on a pedestal near Rathmichael church (O'Flanagan 1927, 40). Westropp (1894, 180-1) describe a broken font or bullaun sunk in the ground near the gate. The font has not been precisely located. The church lies on the E slopes of Carrickgollogan.
